Texas Archery Deer Season

Archery Texas Deer Season Teskeys Outdoors Hunting

Hunters can expect a strong start to the archery-only white-tailed deer season this year. Bucks remain in bachelor groups early in the fall, creating good opportunities before the rut begins.

Spring rainfall across much of Texas supported strong vegetation growth, boosting antler development and providing does with reserves for fawning. Areas that received consistent rain should see an excellent season, though parts of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas may have average to below-average antler growth due to later summer rains.

Forbs, an important food source for deer, were especially abundant, further enhancing herd health. Strong fawn recruitment in recent years means more deer will be available to hunters across the state.

Season dates to note:

  • Archery-only & MLDP season: Sept. 27

  • General season: Nov. 1–Jan. 4 (North Zone), Nov. 1–Jan. 18 (South Zone)

  • Youth-only season: Oct. 24–26 and Jan. 5–18

Archery hunters must have both a hunting license and an Archery Endorsement. Public land hunters also need the Annual Public Hunting Permit and should review regulations in the Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet. On-site registration can be completed through the Texas Hunt & Fish app.
